Sequence-Based Filtering for Visual Route-Based Navigation: Analyzing the Benefits, Trade-Offs and Design Choices

چکیده

Visual Place Recognition (VPR) is the ability to correctly recall a previously visited place using visual information under environmental, viewpoint and appearance changes. An emerging trend in VPR use of sequence-based filtering methods on top single-frame-based matching techniques for route-based navigation. The combination leads varying levels potential performance boosts at increased computational costs. This raises number interesting research questions: How does boost (due sequential filtering) vary along entire spectrum methods? sequence length affect curve? Which specific combinations provide good trade-off between computation? However, there lack previous work looking these important questions most date has been used without systematic approach. To bridge this gap, paper conducts an in-depth investigation relationship those methods. It analyzes individual trade-offs, properties limitations different techniques. experiments conducted study demonstrate benefits over approach various We found that applying lightweight descriptor can enable higher accuracy than state-of-the-art such as NetVLAD, while running shorter time. For example, 16 images, CALC outperforms NetVLAD Campus Loop dataset taking about 22% less time perform VPR.

Design Choices/Engineering Trade-Offs

T his special issue addresses the business of producing computing machines and the choices computer architects and implementors must make to succeed in the marketplace. This focus represents the sober reflection that computer architecture is not yet a science, even though parts of the discipline can be considered science and most of it often involves scientific methodology. To a large extent, t...

Analyzing Packaging Trade-Offs During System Design

mercial electronics market is time. Portable computers, cellular telephones, and a host of other complex, high-density systems often have design cycles of less than a year and even shorter market windows. The very existence of these products depends on finding quick design solutions to meet increasingly challenging performance and cost requirements. Central to the success of these products are ...

A Design Process for Exhibiting Design Choices and Trade-Offs in (Potentially) Conflicting User Interface Guidelines

In the last decades a huge amount of knowledge about user interface design has been gathered in the form of guidelines. Quite often, guidelines are compiled according to user interface properties (e.g. usability, accessibility) and/or application domains (e.g. Web, mobile). In many situations designers have to combine several guideline sets in order to address the specific application domain an...
